Planning a trip to the Grand Canyon. Any advice?

I've never been west of the Mississippi River and have a STRONG desire to see the Grand Canyon this year. I would like any advice on travel, lodging, must see things, things that are overrated ext. I'm going to fly out from Jacksonville, FL and hope to spend 4-6 days out there. It will be my wife and I and our 2 kids (almost 3 and infant).

BTW, I've never traveled by plane before....
