Firebird minibucker mounting ring?

So, I'm building a Firebird from parts, and I'm about to order some Lollar Firebird pickups. However, I don't really know which mounting option to choose.

From my comms with Lollar, my options in my minibucker routs on the Warmoth body are:

1) Mount ON the ring (traditional humbucker)
2) Mount IN the ring which is mounted to the body.

It appears from looking at Gibson Firebirds, that the mount-IN-ring method is used, but can someone verify this for me? I'm not very knowledgeable about this at all.
