Where Does One Find Necks?

Howdy! I'm almost finished with my first build, and can't get enough! I'll get up pics as soon as it's done, but have a question first: where does one find affordable paddle-head necks? I'd love to get into neck building eventually, but am lacking the tools necessary at the moment. I found the neck I'm using on this build in the back of a sketchy store, and it was the last one they had. Where are the $100 or less necks?

And, on a semi-related note, does anyone have any fantastic tips for doign a fret levelling on a sub-par neck? I was thinking to buy an el-cheapo guitar to cut my teeth on in the world of fretwork...

for sub $100 necks with a paddle headstock check out Golden Gate Necks. Should be pretty easy to find on the interwebs, never had one personally so I can't speak to the quality though.

I think you could do pretty good checking out ebay. There are tons of necks for tele and strat style guitars.

Well, the necks from those parts can be red... XD (Punny)

I was thinking about one of those China-necks via eBay, but I'm a bit afraid... I've heard praise and horror stories, and am always a bit on the nervous side.

For me, a neck is 80% of a guitar. Not sure I'd look for the cheapest solution.

There is a great sticky on fret leveling at the TDPRI forum by Ron Kirn. Good stuff.

Get a good neck for it. They don't cost $100 though.
Warmoth. USAG. MUSICRAFT all make great necks

I did this on a Mexican Strat and it's one of the nicest playing guitars I own, now.

Contact B.Hefner. They make custom shop quality necks and bodies. I know, it's more than $100...but worth it to get what you really want.

I've had a couple of custom necks made by them and they are fantastic necks with a ton of options available, and very good customer service too.

I don't know about necks, but you want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o’clock this afternoon… with nail polish.
