Played a 65 RI Twin this evening at band practice.... I was impressed!
With all our hectic schedules, we can never meet at the same time to practice as a whole.... So the first half met last night and the 2nd half met this evening. The other guitarist just got a TRRI a couple months ago and he left it there and text'd me last night and said I could use it tonight for practice. So I figured sure, I'll leave my EL84 amps here at home and see if I dig the Twin. I can say that I was REALLY impressed!
Twangy, thick, meaty, percussive and beautiful was how I'd describe the cleans. I can say I missed my amps as I'm use to that "edge of breakup" sound the Twin would never get, but I could probably arrange a few pedals to get me that tone and be happy. I still like my EL84 offerings better, but that twin left me Gassin' for something - different? I seriously doubt I get rid of my stuff for a Twin, but I can see a Twin in my distant future.... Maybe 5-10 years down the line?

The key is you didn't have to move it!
You will get mighty tired of lugging a 100 pound amp around. |

Do the Twin Mod to a DRRI and save yer back: Weber Copper Cap and a pair of 6L6's.

I had a Mesa Boogie Road King 2x12 combo that weighed 125 pounds. I'm in no hurry for another huge amp. My Hayseed at 75# is about my limit. A twin would probably just sit in my music room (bed room) and not be gigged. It's really just too much amp for me, but I did like it.

100 pounds?!?
The best thing about a TRRI, is that it only weighs 64 pounds. Even weakling indie guitarists can lift that!

It's much easier to have a amp head and a 2X12 cabinet to move around without killing your back. I would put the 65RI in a head shell and pick up a 2X12 open or semi-open back cabinet if i needed that sound for gigs. |
