Great guitarists who are the "total package"

The most obvious example of the full package being Jimi Hendrix, and I know others will cite their faves, but in my world, after Jimi, the greatest total package is:

Adrian Belew

Great guitarist, envelope pusher, sound sculptor, lyricist, composer, singer, personality = the total package. Singing and songwriting are crucial to this label.

I would next add Daniel Lanois and Chris Whitley to my list.

From a different world than Adrian, I'd have to say Bireli Lagrene is up there for me.

Definate personality on stage, amazing on many different instruments, sings well, can play any style authentically and with the highest level of virtuosity!

Just an amazing gifted musician.

Shifting universes a little, I'd also add Mike Landau since he just is in the music so deep. Great compositions, great stage presence, and incredibly emotive and creative guitar work!

Ry Cooder would also have to be considered for my top spot.

Ry and Adrian are 2 of my favorites, but Adrian was the first to come mind today.

Definitely in agreement with Adrian Belew... upon seeing the thread title, though (and probably because the memory of his Sydney shows is still fresh), I'd have to say that the first to come to mind would be Prince.

Greg Koch, Warren Haynes (met and talked to him recently, and played his guitars) and Duane Allman.

"Action Packed" is a great compilation of his Capital years and he has some good live DVDs (ACL, etc). Better yet, catch him live if you can.

Bruce Cockburn's another complete player/writer/singer as is Don Ross, as was Michael Hedges.
