Sabbath is the original heavy.
To me, if you go too fast, you lose the heavy. Heavy ain't fast. Alice in Chains "Man in the Box" might be overdone, but man, it was HEAVY when it came out.

Zeppelin sure has some heavies. I'm thinking Dazed and Confused, No Quarter, Immigrant Song, Kashmir, Wanton Song...

Recorded guitar parts for drummer/singer Happy Wallace on what I deem to be a Southern Hard Rock Project.

The project was interesting in that I had to extract & interpret the chord changes & underlying harmony of the tunes from what he would sing back to me.

The tunes were "Watcha Gonna Do" & "One Step At a Time", and they can be heard here: http://www.myspace.com/happywallace

Black Country Communion, kind of an old school heaviness.

Zingeroo- good post, I agree.

Baminated- could not listen to yours because I need to upgrade version of their viewer and I couldn't do it on this computer. New one to me and I'm going from Mac to PC.

Loved thrice and Lizzy, also Joe B and Communion. Kyuss was great.

Thanks guys these were new adventures in sound for me.

with respect

Al

If you don't mind neo-classical check out Joe Stump. Check out some of the work Derek Sherinian did with Zakk Wylde. Here's a track you might like as well:
