same but i normally don't dime the pre volume. i like playing only a little dirty then using pedals on top. a tonebender doesn't really like a dirty amp too much.

I'm really itching to try something like this. By "inefficient speaker" you mean something rated with a lot more watts than that the amp is capable of putting out?

I use the master volume at less than 9 o'clock and the volume at around 12:30 to 1:00 o'clock. . .Break up controlled by backing off the guitars volume, and actually a Keeley Compressor to kick up for lead/solo.

Like has been said, the amp is very loud.

I like both.
Get some beautiful sounds from jumpers DC30 with the MV engaged.

I run my SC-30 at full power, 2 5V4s, Master disengaged, 12AX7 Volume around 10:00, EF86 Volume around 9:30, one Gold on board. It's plenty loud, but not unbearably so.

No efficiency is how much output per watt input. For example a Celestion Gold is 100db per watt, a Scumback M75 is 97db. 3db is perceived as double the voulme (pretty sure). So going from a 100db speaker to 97db could seem huge.

I'm running an Independence and hardly ever use the MV, it definitely sounds better defined and I like having a bit more control over each channel, also seems to have more headroom with the MV bypassed even at unity volume and gain levels.

Which channel do you use? If you aren't using the ef86 channel, make sure the volume for it is off. Ef86s are noisy tubes....

Mine is pretty quiet with that exception, I don't think it's bad at all...and neither my dc or hc 30 were what I would call noisy so they don't all do it.

Ahh.. thanks for the explanation. You mentioned before about using the M75, I'll have to keep a look out for one of these.

Tweak, tweak, tweak.
Master up a bit more. That will help smooth it out. Use the Cut control as well. Does quite a bit.
