Wired in-ears for a drummer
Our band is lacking a monitor mix and instead of an amp/passive speaker or a powered monitor, I'm thinking of going wired in ear for our drummer. I own the whole PA/monitoring system, so I'm likely making this purchase. I'd have him get his own buds or headphones though. He does sing lead on several songs & back up on most, so his own volume is important, but I'd send an aux mix back to him through the snake.
Is there a standard for this? I have no idea, but I don't like the idea of bringing along another speaker in our already cramped pack space. |

We run a similar set up in my church band. We take a non-powered aux send to a headphone distro box and the drummer and bass share it. Neither sing, but when you have in-ears you can automatically hear yourself better. Assuming you mic everything, you can give him whatever he wants in his mix. It works well.

Shure P6HW is the professional standard.

For those who don't need to be wireless, there's this: http://www.rockonaudio.com/package.php, this: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...ems?sku=243606, and this http://www.peavey.com/products/acces...eAmplifier.cfm (although the limiter is a bit too accessible for my taste).
These are the only ones I know of that have a protective limiter.

How about the Rolls personal monitor? Rolls monitor
There doesn't seem to be any limiting though, unless built in the circuit. |

Limiting is key here. Otherwise, you can use any headphone amp on the planet. My first IEM rig as a drummer was a stereo rack limiter into an old BGW single space amp with headphone outs. Sounded great, but I know how to dial in a limiter so it was safe.
