Do I think it is a real movie? Meaning, do I think they took a script, assembled a production, cast parts, hired the technical crew, shot the film, put it through post-production and released it to theaters and then home video? Yes.
Do I think the film recounts true events using actors in place of the principles? Did you notice a disclaimer similar to the one below at the end of the film: "The events depicted in this movie are fictitious. Any similarity to any person living or dead is purely coincidental." Or was the disclaimer more like this one: "This story is based on actual events. In certain cases incidents, characters and timelines have been changed for dramatic purposes. Certain characters may be composites, or entirely fictitious."

The Onion AV Club review said something to effect that Harrison's character "took a beating that would kill a horse," and not only survived but actually bested the villain. I see that all the time in action/hero movies.

That movie, like most IT based movies, is dumb, though it's better than, say, "The Net". <shudder>
It also contains one of my favorite WTF? moments that most movies of it's type have: The family made it out of the house! They made it to the car! They floor it in an attempt to get away, but the guy with the gun stands in front of them, so they stop, get out, and go back to being hostages. PUNCH IT! People in movies are stupid.

Ok, you may hate me for this, but actually to be more specific, the fact that it rained outside during the entire movie. Hope that helps

That movie was a perfect example of everyone involved "phoning it in."
Does every action film have to have the obligatory "mano a mano" duel at the end? I remember being truly startled towards the end of "To Live an Die in LA" where they whack the protagonist... There should be more of that.
