DBX Driverack PX: opinions?
M thinking about adding one of these to my rack. It would be the only piece of outboard gear so far. I'd be using it with my Presonus Studiolive and powered JBL's and sub.

I'm probably the least qualified person to comment on PA related issues, but that hasn't stopped me yet....
![]() I would think hard before adding any component to my PA. I am a staunch advocate of the K.I.S.S. method. If I'm going to add any new piece of gear into the system, it had better provide a significant improvment in sound, convenience, or reliability. So, if you think it'll solve a problem or greatly improve sound quality, then go for it. Otherwise, I would leave it out.

I have both and use both. There is a learning curve to the driveracks, but once you learn how to use them it's pretty nice, especially to kill feedback.
However, the pink noise issue from trying to measure the room and get your settings set with the mic when setting up the PA can be aggravating to both you and anyone in the room, so a bar owner isn't going to be happy if you show up an hour before and try to set up with people in his bar. I usually don't even go through that pink noise process. I know the driverack well enough that I just one standard setting and then tweak it for whatever room I'd be in. |
