I ended up getting the Art Sla 100.

It is ok, good enough for what I am
using it for.

Really really nice tones-clear, not overly bright, warmth etc. and in a Mix these would even sound better- cool playing also.

I like these gain ranges you play in. Really shows the classy tones of this little Amp IMO.

Are the EVHs the first Fender Amps in History to have excellent-great overdrive/gain tones ?

I know the Prosonics and some of the Rivera Fenders were pretty good but not at this level I don't think.

ToneMaster. A most excellent high-gainer used by Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Richie Sambora, Dave Grohl, to name a few.

For anyone interested, Farmers Branch GC has one, in the Dallas, TX area.
Jammed on it tonight. Plenty of gain. Big volume jump on first/second channel, at all volumes. Fun amp.

Hay Howard, I read this on another forum "Usually, there must be a load on the speaker outputs at all times, but with the 5150 III the outputs are automatically shorted when there's no speaker connection, so there's no need for a load." Is this true? I'm thinking its not but if it is, is the 50watt the same way?

I am probably the person you're quoting from Sneap, and that information came from Howard here on TGP, in this thread. I can't seem to find the original post, it looks like Howard's posts are being deleted for some reason, unless I'm failing with the search engine. I found the quote though, back on page 33.

If you are hooking up only the one cab, your mesa boogie 2x12 cab, to the 5150 iii amp, and your cab is rated at 8ohms, you should set the switch on the back of the amp to be the same. 8ohms.

I'd like to buy one of these, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy a amp/cab for $1500 and not be able to play it first. I can't find a single place that has any in stock.

Channel 2 Help

Ok Im new to the EVH line, I just got the 5150 50 W head and when I palm mute or play rytham rock/Metal the channel cuts out just a bit. Im thinking the pre-amp tube for the chaneel? If so does anyone know what one? Channel one is so clean and clear love it and channel 3 just melts the paint off may wall. This is a great amp....

Same as the 100W and yes this true if NO CABLE is plugged in. What you do not want to do is to have a speaker cable plugged in with no load at the other end. This removes the shorted jack connection which is only shorted if no cable is plugged in. This then presents a very high impedance back to the plates of the tubes which is not a good thing. It will shorten the life of the tube, but the amp will not burst into flames or anything crazy like that.
