Hmm ... what sort of computer are you using to try to run the upgrade? Someone above mentioned that it might be sensitive to Windows versions. If you're seeing the G3 in the In/Out boxes, the software must be seeing the G3. Does the "execute" button just stay greyed out? Or does it throw an error if you try to "execute"?

CNY Scott - are you putting the G3 in update mode first? ie. power down the G3, hold down both patch select buttons then plug in USB cable.
Edit: sorry, just saw that you've already tried that. When I updated to V1.12 on a laptop (XP), I had the update fail halfway through. After cursing for a while thinking I'd bricked it, I unplugged from the laptop, plugged G3 into a desktop (Vista) and it did the update no worries. So maybe a diff computer might do the trick. Try uninstalling the old version of the Zoom patch management software. I was having the same problem until I removed it. Whammo, next try it installed the update just fine.

I updated the edit and share program before attempting to update the G3's firmware.
Was I supposed to update the firmware with edit and share 4.0 then afterwards update edit and share to 5.0? |

Great thread!
I did this to update my G3 from v1.12 to v2.0 on a Mac 1. Set G3 to firmware update mode by powering on the G3 and holding both patch select buttons 2. Update firmware with the v2.0 firmware updater 3. Reboot and get error message about incorrect patches 4. Power off and set G3 to firmware update mode again (see 1.) 5. Update patches with the v2.0 patch updater 6. Reboot 7. If you have strange patch names at this point you can do a factory reset by powering off and holding the store swap button and powering on again. Press store again to do factory reset when G3 powers on again. At this point the device was ok for use with v2.0. I updated the Edit and Share application to v5.0.0.0 and it works fine with the G3 again.

I was able to download and install last night quite easily. now to try the new amps and see how good they sound.
And yes Zoom did their customers a solid here. |

That should not be necessary - I did it the same way you describe. Edit & Share updated first, then run the firmware installers in sequence. (Disclaimer: I did mine on a Macbook Pro, so don't know if it's different for a Windows box.)

When the G3 is plugged into my computer, the edit and share program automatically comes on. I decided to close that program and then run the installer, and it worked.
Anyone else have that problem? |

I used the Deluxe R at church last night and it responded and sounded great, I set it up to give what i hoped would be a little breakup on energetic chord work, and bell like tones for single note lines and that's exactly what I got. Before the update, my view was that the acoustic sim had the most real world punch of all the amp sims, not saying the amps were bad but there something a little more real, more life in the acoustic sim, but the new amps, at least the 3 that I have spent the most time with, all have that feeling of liveliness, to say I'm pleased is an understatement. One more thing, I was on the fence about the G5, I want one now! |

They have to leave something for the G5 only, otherwise, what would be the point?

One point that I want to make (and I'm a digital modelling fanboi too) is that zoom just polished a turd here. Thing still sounds like poop as far as amp modelling goes.
These amp models are all gross sounding to me. |
