No.

Especially if you have to ask...

An experienced user can get something useful out of them, but you have to really be able to tweak them.

Just get a GEQ for the mains and monitors and you'll be fine.

Just get a powered sub with a built in x-over and a simple analog EQ for the speakers/monitors. You have to be able to spend time dialing in the driverack. It can be more of a pain than it's worth.

From what I am reading about a certain dbx unit, it takes care of most of that automatically with a little tweaking needed afterwards.

What is he (and I) missing?

I have one. If you've got the RTA mic it will work wonders. You don't need one but it would help if you learned how to use it. I replaced a crap load of stuff with just one unit. Makes my job easier and gives us a more consistent sound from venue to venue.

This. The RTA mic is an essential piece of equipment. Also, taking the time to learn how to adjust the crossover/gates/compressors correctly will work wonders.

It's really no different than having each rack unit seperately. With that said, if you don't know how to setup a full PA halfway decently, the driverack will mind fu#$ you.
