I separate the ( what has become conventional these days ) use of "artists", from ART, especially in regards to Music. I consider ARTS part of it all of course, but I file the using of "Artist" with Music and Musicians as euphemistic or shallow and practically meaningless at this point. Sure there's "reasons" and excuses for it's use and what is "meant" by it.. There always are, no matter how stupid the new words or terms ( or application of same ). When I hear someone use "artists".. "Consumers" or "Superstar" etc.. I listen carefully to them, because I consider such words meaningless. Yes "They" might know what they are trying to say... I don't. How many times has some figure on The Voice... Got Talent or X-Factor used the terms "Superstar" or "Artist"? The words are practically useless.. How many kids are starting to use them the same loose way? So I was trying to include The Arts and not use the term "artists" as so commonly used these days. If that makes sense.. Geek is becoming practically the same way... a Newspeak buzzword with little meaning. Is someone who knows ALL the Lyrics to songs and loves Meaning and Theme and Plots a Geek? .. especially compared with those that "love the beat" and dance and couldn't care less about the words? It's like much of polite conversation most anywhere... Go a little bit deeper and you've lost half the crowd lol... Skim the Surface and it's easy. The trick might just be to still have substance over mere Image and wait for those that are like minded!
