If you're playing noise rock and really pushing the 135 UL Twin that hard then use these: http://www.electrovoice.com/product.php?id=410

You should have a short speaker break-in period since you're able to play that loud.
With these EV's, just turn the amp up and play--- no more worries about blowing speakers.
They are available from many vendors---i linked to the EV site to avoid suggesting one vendor over another.
I've never really liked the 135 UL amps but for your application i think this amp is a good choice.

Oh wow, I have never even heard of these until now. These look perfect for what I'm doing! WAY out of my price range at the moment . $265 a pop new. Prob worth it though. This is part of the reason I am leaning towards the Swamp Thangs, since it can handle 150w each speaker, though I'm sure they are not as clear or articulate as those EVM's!

Yeah UL Twin reverbs are only good if you're using an all-pedal platform, which is why I love it .

That must be one of the last pre Rivera era Twins. Cool.

You maight get lucky and score some EVLs in a PA cab or stage moniter.
Also Mesa used them just grab the speakers and throw the mesa in the dumpster.
(I'm kidding) Pull the tubes first for spares.

These are very close to the Rivera era Fender 12F speaker which was a EV Speaker made to Fenders Specs. 12L is a version or two newer. They are great sounding speakers. They are very effcient. I tried my single 12F With my Dual Professional thinking it would sound great. Which it did but it was roughly 25% louder then the two Celestion Vintage 30's. At least in my 1983 Concert the 12F sounds warmer tan the standard Fender Jenson/Oxford/CTS. Given your usage they might be just what the doctor ordered.

I had a Fender Twin reverb back in the day and it blew speakers no matter what my tech put in it.

It sound like you are not concerned with clean tones. I just did some experimenting with my '94 "the twin" and found AlNiCos are best for clean but the OD channel suffered. I tried a Celestion G100k, not as good for clean but the OD channel sounds awesome. Two of these should hold up well and can be found for a reasonable price.

The speaker impedance mismatch ain't what blew your speakers. That was VOLUME.
Was my immediate thought too.

My Twin Reverb never really took pedals really well until I picked up a pair of old EVM 12L's. You NEED these speakers! Now I throw an HM-2, DOD 250, or any Fuzz in front of it and it sounds great. Speakers are rated 200w each and they hardly break up. I play my Twin cranked and I haven't had a problem yet. I did, however, take the chassis out of the combo and into a head cab. Threw the speakers in an open back, bit top Emperor 2x12.

You can find used EV's for the $100-$150 price range. I picked up both of mine for $220 total. Great investment. Any amp sounds great through that cab really. It's louder (heavier too, unfortunately) than any of my 4x12's.

Good luck.

Plus one for the EVM-12Ls, or Weber Michigan 12s, as they can handle some decent power -- the Webers can take 100 Watts each.

Head cab and separate 2x12", perhaps?

Singer in an old band of mine inherited a Twin from Michael Bloomfield, not a UL one but the red-knob "The Twin", and it had the EV's in it.

I became a fan of those things - pure clean w/ girth, great mids, and quite musical, for lack of a better descriptive term.

Only issue ever w/ the thing involved actually trying to move it...those speakers are quite heavy - actually distorted the spkr. baffel iirc.

Still have one kicking around here somewhere...

Another vote for the Jensen Neo's,I've had a pair in my 65 RI Twin for a couple of years now and they are very loud and really clean. They also take pedals very very well very smooth, plus my amp is 8 or 10lbs lighter.
