Bonamassa playing the Jim Kelley amp.. vid

Just saw this on the Suhr Facebook page.. badass tone.... I want one of these amps, haha! John did a great job on these, I played one at the shop awhile ago and it's "all that".

Not shilling, I'm a Suhr guy but here I'm just appreciating and giving tone credit where credit is due....

Yep.

one of the coolest 6v6 amps ever made. Love the tone of them. Can't wait to hear one of the new ones in person.

It is great tone there. And I wanted to hear the bridge pickup, too, but still Joe nailed some great tone.

Couple of footnotes. Joe normally likes a 4x12 speaker arrangement so we had a Marshall cab set up for him in an adjacent room. It needed to be that way for recording purposes. But as a result the guitar didn't interact much with the amp, and the Celestions in the cab sound a little raggedy to me. In retrospect I think Joe might have preferred the EV's.

Note the knobs are all basically just at 12 o'clock and none of the switches are pulled, so there's barely any amp gain. I think Joe wanted to show the kind of expression and dynamics you can get with the guitar plugged straight into the amp, from clean to breaking-up, with ordinary settings just by using your fingers. The amp does a whole lot more than that if you want it to, but it would probably have turned into a full length motion picture.

Note also that Joe does change to the bridge pickup at about 00:53 1/2.

I'm told that the amps are scheduled to begin shipping this month.

I really want to say a bunch of thanks to Joe, and also to Rick Gould and all the guys at Suhr for the videos. Joe doesn't have much spare time these days, and I just love it that he came down to let us hear him play through the amp - and to record it for posterity. He's totally the consummate professional, thoughtful guy, the ultimate gearhead, and happens to be a great friend.

Oh yeah, and I prolly should thank John Suhr too while I'm at it. ;-) Thank you, John!

Jim

Hey Jim and everybody -

Great to hear a Jim Kelly amp - I can't wait to get mine back (from it's rebuild/ laying on of hands at the Suhr shop!) - I'm STOKED!

My favorite 6V6 amp SINCE I GOT IT NEW in '82 .... Jim, I'm thrilled to see a post from you here at TGP. To my ears, you da MAN, as well as one of the "Founding Fathers" of boutique amps.

Sounds AWESOME as always Jim, Congrats, oh, Nice Job Joe!

Thanks, Dana O.
