It was pretty mind bending how I was going as fast as I thought was possible and he went by me at easily 10 mph faster. I witnessed the birth of the double jump also when he was racing against Rex Staten at Saddleback MC Park in SoCal in around '76. My friends and I were like a car full of vegetables on the way home. It took several weeks to get our heads around it. You just knew that something profound had happened. He changed everything in one moment and I was there on the same track.

Nothing I've done, but I have been very lucky on a few occasions. I win stuff, have hit a few slot machine jackpots, killer picking finds...

But the big one was 10 years ago surviving a drive by shooting. I was asleep(more like passed out) and my house got sprayed by 9 shots from a .357. I was laying on my side and one of the bullets went in between my arm and my chest. I had minor burns, and it tore my skin up a little, but I didn't even wake up! I had quite a few drinks prior to that and didn't hear the shots. The police officer said that being so drunk probably saved my life because I didnt sit up or move when the first shots were fired. An inch either way would have been big trouble.

Its weird, I've probably talked about it more in the last few weeks than I have in the passed 10 years. My buddy, who was with me at the time, and I have acted like it never happened since then.

Raised three children as a young single parent.
I doubt that anything else that I do in this lifetime will top that.

I returned a stolen guitar to a guy. I found the guitar in a pawn shop in east Texas in 1979. It had a guy's name inlaid on the fretboard. I sold the guitar at a guitar show to a dealer from Tulsa. Forward 15 years and I found an LP of the guy whose name was inlaid on the neck. I located the old guy who originally owned the guitar. I told him about the guitar and he said "I'd sure like to have it back". He said it was stolen at a show in about 1956. I contacted the guy that bought the guitar from me and told him the story. He wanted the original owner to have the guitar back too. He shipped the guitar back to me and I sent it on to the old man out in Calif. In return, the guy in Calif. sent me a pair of old Nudie boots for the guy who had the guitar. Some friends told me to contact the TV station and they did a nice story on all of this.

I also returned over $2500 in cash that I found in a money bag. The guy who lost it just barely gave me a thank you.

Worked in the ER in some pretty stressful situations.
Restored a vintage motorbike down to the spokes.

Also.. did one or two quite unimpressive things...

Public speaking to audiences of 1,500 (twice) in NYC + several other high pressure speaking engagements all around the world (Brazil, Denmark, Germany, India, Switzerland, etc.) to groups of about 400 on average.

Playing my own songs, solo acoustic, in a shitty little bar in front of about 40 people.

But, the one that matters the most is 21/+ years of marriage (so far) + a 20 year old son that often drives me nuts, but I couldn't be prouder of him.

This was one of the first drugs discovered using a rational drug design approach. My contribution to the project was to design software that could analyze structure-activity relationships, which significantly facilitated the drug development process. I was a very junior member of the team, and it was thrilling to have the opportunity to work with such intelligent and insightful people.
That is the most impressive thing I have read on here so far. Tagamet was life-changing for so many people. Without acid suppression, I would have died from an ulcer years ago.
