Can I put Steel strings on a Uke that came with nylon?
I bought a Cordoba uke (concert size) came w/nylon strings. Would it hurt to put steel strings on it? If so can you tie steel like nylon on the bridge?
Just curious??

I remember once reading that Bola Sete would sometimes string nylon string guitars with steel strings - that he liked the sound he got in doing so... but of course, the life of the guitar was very short as the bracing was not nearly strong enough for the added tension.
So here's the real answer. Yes, you can put steel strings on the ukulele. It might even sound great - for a short time. But, it will not last very long and in the end the uke will be badly damaged. FWIW, you wouldn't need to tie the steel strings as the ball would hold the string at the lower end of the bridge. Some nylon string players even tie a ball sold as bridge bone beads to the end of their string as it changes the beak angle the string goes over the saddle and thus the tone.

When I was a teenager, I replaced one of the strings on my mother's ukelele with a metal wrapped string from a classical guitar set (oh, the lameness of ignorant youth). Forgot all about it till a few days later when watching TV in the same room as the instrument. Heard this awful snapping noise. The tension had ripped the glued in bridge off the uke and violently slapped it against the headstock.

I don't know about a Uke, but there are some very low tension steel strings for guitars that originally used nylon or gut strings. I remember seeing old Martin's from the late 1800's strung with low tension strings (they may have been light gauge silk and steel).
