Smile How many OVIs should be allowed before a permanent ban on the drivers license?

Around here people get multiple OVIs and are still driving around

I'd say after 3 you can only drive to work/school/church and to teh beer store.

After 4 you can only drive to work.

5 and you're out.

In Wisconsin people collect them like pogs or beanie babies.

I think maybe two strikes and you're on the bus the rest of your life.

My biggest beef is, killing someone should be treated as intentional. In general I tend to favor less strict rules but very strict punishment.

Really? Everyone makes mistakes, including you. I voted 3 because a permanent ban is, well, permanent.

Two. You get one chance to be stupid, but after that, you're done.

Although I live in Wisconsin, I'm not from Wisconsin. In the deep South where I grew up, there are much harsher penalties.

Edit: I do see the logic for one and done, however. How many times would you let someone open fire on Main Street before you gave them harsh penalties? I'd wager just once.

Not a simple question. I believe that the MADD groups and politicians have perverted the safety issue into insanity. It is possible to get a DUI for having a single glass of wine and bumping into the bumper of another car in a tight parking lot. And police organizations are financially rewarded for handing out DUIs. It has gone beyond keeping dangerous drivers off the road.

If we were talking about REAL DUI. Meaning no joke you are messed up then I'll go along with 2 DUIs and you are out. One might be a mistake as in "I had 5 instead of stopping at 2". Twice means you aren't listening and are too stupid to drive.

If you are using the current "teaspoon of cough medicine with some alcohol in it is DUI" measure then I say limitless. The system is flawed.

BTW, I don't advocate returning to the world where they just let you sleep it off when they find you covering one eye so you can drive. Blotto needs punishment. But let's not pretend that some people with good intentions haven't hijacked the system.

Yeah- we need to start posting the name of the judges who ar eletting hte ones out when they have 3+ DUI convictions. This 5,6,7,8+ DUI crap is fargin' ridiculous!

The problem, like many other things, is that people who are told that they can't legally do something don't care and do it anyway.

3. Lifetime.

Or 2 in a 12 month period.

Everyone is stupid until they're about 30, so a DUI in that time frame is understandable. Not acceptable, understandable.

One later could be an isolated mistake.

By then you should learn your lesson. And if you get a third, no car for you. Maybe a chance for appeal after 5 years if someone can show proof of sobriety or rehab or something.

BUT... if you get 2 in one year, you have issues and need to not be driving.

DUIs are different...they are not DWIs

A DUI could be only 1 beer. A DWI is over the limit and intoxicated.
