Got my set of Vintage Tele pups from Kerry today and put them right into my American Series Tele. Wow! What an upgrade. I really like the AmSer neck pup, but Kerry's blows it out of the water. The neck is clear and chimey (like the Fender pup in that sense), but with more depth and character. Bridge pup sounds great as well. First impressions are that this set is at least as good as any I have owned (Fralins, Lollars, etc.). Workmanship and fit/finish also is excellent.

so far i'm really impressed with my A4 vintage set.. love that the inbetween positions sound great and don't lose too much power.. any harshness is gone as well.

Shall put it through its paces this weekend.

Is he typically slow in responding - I sent him a message on ebay about 4 weeks ago and still haven't heard back from him.

He has always responded within a day, or so. I'm guessing he didn't get your message for some reason. And even though I think he is swamped with work, I would try again.

I installed a set of his '64 Strat pickups in an alder-bodied, rosewood board Strat. I've played them for about a week. Two friends of mine have played them and come to the same conclusion I have. They are simply excellent, regardless of price.

The guitar had Ron Ellis 50/60's in it and I don't feel like these new ones are any compromise. I sold the Ellis ones simply because they were too much like what I already had and they were worth a pretty penny. I have three Strats and I don't want each of them to be identical. The Ellis set was fantastic, too. Greed got the best of me, but I don't regret my choice. I also had a WCR Strat set that was nice. Those and the Ellis' have a bridge pickup that just kills. For some reason, though, I could not get along with the neck pickup in the WCR set. It just sounded flat to me. Not enough highs.

This '64 set has a great bridge pickup, for me. It has enough mids to crunch with a little gain. I use a tone knob on my bridge Strat pickup and this p'up works great with it. It's not the WCR or Ellis bridge sound, it's still a Strat bridge p'up (which usually sucks)... But with more body/midrange. The middle pickup, my favorite spot on a Strat, is bright without being edgy. It pushes the amp more than a 50's style p'up without being an overwound SRV thing. (And I love the SRV thing! That's in another guitar.) The neck p'up what a neck pickup should be. Reedy/flutey when pushed, bell-like when clean. Again, just enough "hot" to land between 50's and overwound. All three pickups go together as you switch from position to position. The in-between settings are not as clucky as a 50's set, but that's what I expected in a hotter set.

Hope this helps!

Just started the process,pm thru Ebay this AM. Is there a better way to reach him? Gonna order up a couple strat sets, thinking I'll try a set like Vaughn's. I must be sick. Don't call a doctor.

I can answer my own question. I emailed Kerry about 10ish, He called me back around 3:00. On a Sunday. His communication skills rate as excellent in my book. Twenty-odd minutes later I had 2 sets coming, confident we were on the same page. I'm going to try an A2 vintage set, but Kerry recommended the A4 set rather than Vaughn's for my needs, and was quite articulate in explaining why. Delivery date 2-3 weeks, and I'm psyched.

Can any of you satisfied customers kindly make a clip of your pickups? The ones the builder has posted on youtube aren't really that good (camcorder quality and way too trebly sounding). I'm sure they sound great in person and a proper recording with a mic into the right software would do wonders for the curious minded.

Leaning towards the Texas Magic from what I've read so far!

He responded to me the next day on e bay. If he's getting a lot of business (courtesy of this thread no less) I'm sure he's a pretty busy, one man show. Mine (vintage strat set, non rwrp) shipped Friday ...Not set up for clips, but they'll have their work cut out for them, replacing original 63 strat pickups. Probably won't stay there but it's a good platform.

The bay didn't get the message through - a fellow boarder set me up with Kerry's direct email and we've been in cinstant contact over the past 2 days. I'm leaning towards the V60's model to try out.

Just replaced a crossroad/fillmore wcr set with his humbuckers, the neck pickup is awesome, much more clarity than the crossroad...not sure if the bridge is too bright yet
