I taught a bass student today and we did "I know what I am" by Band of Skulls. Pretty easy only notes are E A D and B, mainly crotchets with nearly all notes on open strings.

C'mon this is easy -
BOMP BOMP BOMP BOMP..."Runnin' With the Devil" Van Halen
It's pretty much open E the entire song.

"Everyday People" by Sly & the Family Stone is deceptively simple. It's one note for the entire song with no changes, but the timing might be a little tough for a beginner.

I agree with the earlier post about Ramones songs. Most have 2 maybe 3 chord changes & they're usually A, D, and E. The songs are fun, easy, and would give her a good base (no pun...) to learn other types of songs.

Not sure if she'll be into that kind of music, but a lot of Pink Floyd stuff has really easy bass lines: Comfortably numb, Another brick in the wall II... Then there's Walking on the moon and other stuff by The Police (it doesn't get much easier than Every breath you take)... Also Brothers in arms, So far away... All good music with slow tempos that leave lots of "space" to learn all about good timing, how long to let notes ring and when to stop them, without the stress of having to play fast. Also very clear harmonies that let you appreciate easily how the bass fits in there to lay the foundations, and excellent bassists who are more about really meaning each note they play than playing lots of them, always a good lesson for a beginner.

a lot of the AC/DC catalog would fit the bill. Fun to play along to.

EDIT- maybe not for a 16 yr old girl, though....

Some Kinda Wonderful. Don't get much easier than that till you go back to Louie Louie or Bo Diddly.

Sunshine Superman is simple, but will show up timing/feel issues right away.

How about the country songs, since it is a lot easier bass lines 3 chords with an off chord

Need advice ask this guy I seen on craiglist

http://eastky.craigslist.org/muc/3199681566.html

Bass player available for PAYING GIGS ONLY. I play G, C, D. If your songs are not in G, please transpose them into G. If your song has an Em or Bm or anything off the wall I will probably sit out that chord. Or I could learn those notes for $30 each. If you want me to do fancy stuff like go back and forth between G and D while you hold a G chord, forget it because I'm a "pocket" player. Minimum $100 per gig within a 5 mile radius of 41202. $5 per mile travel charge for other areas out of town. Please make sure your gigs are on a JATRAN bus route, or you can pick me up at my place. Must be home by 11pm due to previous legal hassles. No gigs within 500 yards of schools, parks, or playgrounds. Put $$$ in reply so I know you aint no machine. I have references two.
