Need some help: PRS hollowbody 2 questions
I recently acquired a 2007 PRS HB2 ten top with piezo. But I realised most of the ten top came with a maple back, but mine didnt. And the truss rod cover didnt have the hollowbody ii initials. It was just a plain trussrod. I still have the original tags which indicates it as a HB2. But according to those issues i mentioned, did i really get a HB2?

Are you positive its not a maple back, just not highly figured?

Ten top doesn't mean ten back.

Strange....yours sounds more like a HB I which has a figured maple top and mahogany back. Plenty of those are 10 tops as well.

im positive the back is not maple. Here is a picture of it.

Yeah, that looks like mahogany, which would make your guitar a HBI.

I believe the HB I has a spruce top, not a maple top. I have a beautiful 2005 HB II and it has maple top and back. Truss rod cover does not say HB II, it says "20th" because it is anniversary year.

HB I = maple top, mahogany back and sides
HB II = maple top and back, mahogany sides
HB Spruce = spruce top, mahogany back and sides.

Truss rod covers generally said simply "McCarty".

It's a really nice guitar, but I don't think I should have paid the amount for it. How much is a used hbI worth compared to hbii?

hmm i think i have decided to keep the guitar. It is such a keeper.. I was able to get tones i have been lusting for forever on this guitar! Even though i may have paid a slightly higher cost i think im pretty much set on this!

The HBII commands a slightly higher price than an HBI. A quilted HBII might fetch even more.

The HBI (and spruce as well) are cool because of the construction: it's a big ol' thick block of mahogany that they hollow out like a canoe, so the back and sides are all one single piece of wood, no seams at all. Even the sound post is carved and not glued on!

Definitely cool guitars!

Not surprising. Many prefer the 1 to the 2 for its slightly different sound. I've heard the 1 described as sounding a bit rounder, or having a softer, less sharp attack.
