For somewhat warmer clean tones to '80s metal, the Fender Dyna-Touch stuff is quite nice for a good price. As for higher end solid-state amps, the clips that I have heard of Pritchard and Pearce amps were indeed rather impressive.I also feel that the PRS Harmonic Generator from the late '80s sounded rather impressive at a Winter NAMM show. For the over the top metal crowd, the Randall RG-80,Ampeg SS-70 and VH-140C can get some quite brutal distortion tones.
