Goodall Guitars are absolutely incredible and stunning acoustic guitars.
I have a Goodall RCJ Big Goose Spruce top acoustic, that I just love and it plays and sounds amazing! |

One can argue the merits of various high end acoustics, but Goodall always is right at the top tier.
I bought a beautiful Koa/Cedar Grand Concert that was made for the '98 NAMM show.Well actually, I couldn't afford to buy it outright, but since the shop owner was a good friend he let me trade a bunch of stuff (SRV Strat, Les Paul Studio, A Continental DON resonator, a princeton amp, and my original vintage Beatles Butcher Babies album cover. Plus some cash). It just jumped out at me when I played it, and I had to have it. But I didn't feel comfortable taking it out of the house, so a few years later I bought a Goodall Aloha Koa/Spruce Grand Concert (used) that is now my main gigging and playing out with friends guitar. And though considerably less costly (but still not cheap by any stretch of the imagination), it gives away nothing in sound quality or craftsmanship. Plus, James' shop is just down the road, which is very convenient (and dangerous if GAS strikes) if I ever need anything.

I've owned a CJ in Adirondack/Mahogany, and a Jumbo in Sitka/Indian. Both were superb guitars.

I have two Goodalls that appear to be similar, but have very different tonal qualities. Both are Grand Concert Cutaways and have Madagascar b/s. One has a bearclaw sitka top, the other a Port Orford Cedar top. The Port Orford topped guitar was custom ordered by a prior owner without the satin finished neck, 1 11/16th neck (super comfy profile too) and premium walrus ivory. It is the finest sounding guitar I've ever had the pleasure of playing. The sitka topped guitar is a tad less "rich" and has more sparkle. As with all Goodalls I've played, they're top notch build quality, superior tone woods and design make for great instruments.
Here are some pics: Port Orford first: ![]() ![]()

I played one a couple of years ago at Buffalo Brothers and walked away saying "someday I will own of of those". A couple of weeks ago my local shop had a used Traditional Dreadnaught in and it came home with me. I make a point of playing it every day and have not been disappointed in any way shape or form. They are simply amazing guitars.

I had a Goodall TMhd that was out of this world. I shouldn't have sold it.

My story is similar. Was in Chicago on a business trip, played my first goodall (I had heard of them, never played one) and it blew away anything I had played at that point. Said I would have one. Sold my k14ce - great guitar - when a mint RCJ with masterclass sitka top became available.
I thought this was the end, then came McPherson 5.0. I am content with the Goodall, but I know some day I will own a mcpherson. As for the Goodall, it gives me the ideal "tone in your head" thing every time I play it. ![]() ![]()

Goodalls also play themselves. I don't know how James does it, but his guitars are silky smooth all the way up the neck.
