Thumbs up The Raconteurs "Consolers of the Lonely"

For some reason I have avoided this band. I watched their ACL performance recently and it impressed me enough to buy "Consolers".
GREAT freaking album. Tons of influences and good guitar tone. They are the real deal and I'm glad I finally opened up my mind a little to Jack White. The boy has skills.

Caught some of the ACL performance as well and was impressed. But then, I've been a Jack White fan for a long time. I think the guy is really talented. Saw the Stripes last year in Winnipeg and it was fantastic. They create a pretty amazing wall of sound for just guitar and drums...

His new project is looking pretty interesting too... he plays drums and sings, Alison Mosshart from the Kills fronts it (she is AMAZING so this is already a great choice) rounded out by the guitarist from Queens of the Stoneage and Jack Lawrence (Racontuers/Greenhornes) on bass. They're dropping the album pretty soon, by all accounts and purposes though its already looking like its going to sound pretty cool:

I don't care for the White Stripe sound but love the Raconteurs. Best newish band out there imo.

the racs are one of the best rock bands i've ever heard. That ACL performance was a from 3 years ago. They are a much tighter and more mature band now believe it or not. That was still fairly early in their development IMO.

Saw them last year and they made that 06 stuff sound raw and loose by comparison. Carolina Drama is one of the best story songs i've heard in a long time....especially a coming from someone without a southern accent.

People who say that there isn't any good rock bands anymore must either be fools or oblvious to bands like this and my morning jacket.

I love that Jack White just does his own thing. He used his success in the White Stripes to be able to do what he wants, and as far as I'm concerned his new stuff is fantastic!

let's not also forget jack white did the music for the last james bond movie (right? he at least did the theme song with alicia keys which was awesome) and didn't he win a grammy for 'van lear rose' with loretta lynn? d00d is a master of the music world.

btw, I think the story goes that the first gig for the racs was in a bowling alley and few new that white was in the band when they played....or so i've heard.

I think they're great, but preferred the first album.
