Please compare Shiva and Lonsestar cleans
Had a Shiva EL 34 one 12 combo and loved the cleans. I'm thinking about getting a Mesa Lonestar (not the special) and remember playing one once a long time ago. I remembered thinking the cleans were not quite as full and round as the Shiva's and a little thinner. I know the Shiva's closed back, but wondering what your guys' (and gals') experience and opinions were of the cleans on both amps?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as always. (if you're going to suggest other amps, I do need a channel switcher with agressive gain channel and preferably reverb with two seperate settable levels). thanks. |

I don't think the el34's cleans hold a candle to the Lonestar's. Not enough headroom, warm, but no sparkle.
The lonestar just sounds like an old blackface deluxe with alot more headroom and a better eq with adjustable wattage. It also has a really nice feel to it, not super stiff. Not to say that it is better per se than the shiva, but I don't think most people buy a shiva for the clean channel. It's the plexi that plexis should sound like. But to me, the clean channel is just... okay. |
