Moving beyond basic theory in a practical way
I've got a grasp on basic theory but after trying to follow some of the threads that JonR, Kimock post in it goes over my head within seconds. I am curious and interested to learn.
Maybe talking about it as theory isn't right, but the application of altered and more advanced chords and playing over them etc I bought Ted Greene's Chord Chemistry a while ago and have found little use for it with my current understanding. What would be the best way to start progressing, are there any books (or a structured approach I could take )that take you through things in baby steps with examples to hear or play so you can hear what they are talking about? I'm not a jazz player but I'm interested in chord melody, chord substition and interesting ways to modulate between different keys as well as playing over sequences in a more interesting way than I do now.
