2000 MIM Strat Tremolo

I have a standard MIM strat I plan on modding, this guitar has never had a trem arm for as long as I could remember, I purchased a standard M6 threaded tremolo arm and it's too big to tighten into the block, anybody know what size i need, or if it'd be a stupid idea to drill into the block to make it bigger.

If it is the thin block (and I think it will be) drilling it out to 6mm will weaken the sides to such a degree that it may split in use.
This is a nasty trem and should be replaced.
Good replacements start quite cheap.
This budget Wilkinson is a big improvement;

I do plan on replacing the whole trem, just not at this current moment in time. Just want something functional atm.

I googled the part number and cant find anywhere that sells it?

Had a look at the gfs website, and they sell the replacement block for the trem

http://store.guitarfetish.com/sosttrblfima.html

Cheaper than replacing the whole thing, it's threaded for the USA trem arm, which i have no idea if its the same as the M6 threaded arm i have.

it isn't 6mm .
Go for the trem I pointed out as it has a push in arm with tension adjustment. The block would be an improvement though but don't forget to buy an arm for it as well.

Any Fender, or Fender accessories dealer should be able to get you that part.

Do what I do. I take my guitar to GC tell them I need a new trem arm. They pull out a big box full of various trem arms.
I go through them till I find one that fits properly. I walk out. They have yet to even charge me for one.

I'll upgrade the trem when I have the money, for now im still tryna scrounge the money to pay for new pups.

I'll ask my local shop, but the guy who runs it tells me himself they get ripped off on fenders so it's expensive.

I live in the UK and I can assure you id never find a shop that friendly.

I don't think the trem you pointed out will fit the MIM mounting hole spacing. If I'm recalling correctly the 6 mounting holes are a little off from the USA vintage style.

The hole spacing will fit, I've fitted about 20 of these so far .
