Line 6 M9 vs DL4

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to get a DL4 ever since I started playing electric guitar, but its notorious reputation of being unreliable has always kept me away. Right now, I use a couple of Boss pedals to do the trick in terms of reverb/delay, but I keep finding myself wanting the sounds that the DL4 has (auto volume, analog w/ mod, low res).

SO, I'm looking into buying an M9 to replace my boss pedals (DD7, DD20, RV-5, TR-2) so that I can get the DL4 settings and then some. For those of you guys who have used both, would you say the M9 delays are on par or better than what's on the DL4? Are they exactly the same or have you noticed significant differences between the two?

Appreciate your help!

Man, buy the M9 and donīt ever look back. M9 is like 3 improved DL-4s / Echo pro + 3 Mod Pro + 3 Distortion Mod Pro + Verzilla + Whammys + Whas + EQs + Looper + Tuner...

No contest. The M9 easily beats the DL-4.... and I loved the DL-4.

The M9 is the DL4, with better reliability, better sound, and better looper. Oh, and it has a bunch of other great effects too.

On my M9 I'm usually running two DL-4 inspired delays and one reverb ...it sounds like you'd dig that set up too. I don't see any reason to get a DL-4 now that the M9 is out.

If you have the cash, I'd say get the m13. I replaced my dl4 with an m13, sucked it up and got the extended GC warrenty. That way in 3 years when the footswitches start crapping out (like my DL4 did) I'll take it back and get a brand new one! also you can get GC to price match. I got mine with the $80 warrenty for a little over $500 new.

Good luck

the only reason i keep my DL4 is that 'wrong' sounding modulated delay (sounds phasey) that is 'corrected' on the M9/M13. Ive always loved that sound.

M9 bro. It has all improved algorithms from the original 4 button series pedals. It's a big win. I have an M13, I'm never getting rid of it.

LOL, OT - I know exactly what you mean, isn't it funny that we end up loving things that are logically "wrong"

I personally like that phasey sound, too. But I guess I don't mind if it's fixed.

One more question, how many delay settings can I run at once? For example, I love running my DD20 and DD7 together, one at dotted eights, the other at quarter with the same tempo tapped in for both. Would I be able to do this with the M9 (and possibly in series, too)? What about a 3rd lonnnggg delay to create a wall of sound?

You can run as many of any effect type as you want.

3 at a time on the M9
4 at a time on the M13

Yes I believe you can do this. You can run 3 effects at once, so you could set up those 2 delays. Each delay, you can adj. the note parameters, then control the tempos with the tap switch. I've just started to find my way around the M9(had it 1 week), and it's pretty amazing. The OD's sound great, as do the reverbs.

Just got my m9 yesterday... one of the first things I did was set up 3 delays and turn 'em all on. You'll dig it.

I've had 2 DL-4's and an M13... the M13 killed them both at the same time. It has far more delay options and parameters, lets you have 4 at once (three with the M9) and on top of that has a ton of extra effects!

The DL-4's will always be classics, but the M9/13 blew them out of the water in my book.

Go M9. I guess DL-4 sales will drop now when the M9 is out?
