Attenuator advice, Ho or Ultimate for 66 Bassman &/or 67 Plexi?

never owned or used an attenuator before but would like to be able to play my amps at home sometimes... would also be good for rehearsals so i can crank them a bit more...

which one would be best recommended for my amp ('66 50 watt bassman) and my future amp ('67 100 watt plexi either germino or metro)

looking mostly at the Ho or ultimate attenuator...

cheers

They are one in the same, Mr Ho is the inventor of the UA. Not to derail your thread but you might want to check this out: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=592533

Youll thank me later!

Thanks for the link mate. Unfortunately i live in australia and need a 240v version... It also needs to be 4 ohms for my bassman... Also thanks for the tip on the ho and ultimate i didn't realise they were the same... Cheers

A) The Alex is passive - no voltage required. Stellar tone, but they're single ohm units. I know he's talked about doing 4 ohms, but don't know if he's decided one way or another. I'd PM him and ask. For the money, and if you can get by with a single ohm unit...the AA can't be beat.

B) The Ultimate is 30 ohms. Standard Ho's are as well, though I know he does 16 ohms as well (still too much of a mismatch for your Bassman, IMHO). Not sure if he'll do something lower.

C) Aracom PRX150 - passive, input impedances of 2, 4, 8 , 16 ohms, output impedances of the same. You can mix and match the impedance of your amp with impedance of your speaker cab. Stellar tone.

D) Faustine Phantom - passive, ohms adjustable, 4, 8 or 16. Again stellar tone.

No worries, anytime. Like TTripp said if you need 4 ohms I would get something closer in impedance match. 30 ohm to 4 ohm is just too scary of a mismatch for me. Some of the new attenuators on the market now are passive so voltage isnt an issue. I know Alex was thinking of making some 4 ohm units for Fender type amps, so that might look good for you. I have one and really love it! Even with shipping to OZ you would be around $400, just something to think about.

I dont know what your budget is but if you can spend more the Faustine Phantom is multi impedance and stellar as well.

I just picked up an 8ohm AA and it is excellent.
I have not tried the others.
