1976 Rickenbacker 360/12. Should I buy it?

There is a guy at the local music store trying to sell his 1976 Rickenbacker 360/12. I played on it for a while yesterday and it sounds great and is in really good condition cosmetically. He wants $1100. Does this sound like a fair price?

That's much less than the average price of ANY Rickenbacker 12 string. BUY IT!

Fab price. Those old higain pickups with the bass-cut cap installed will sound wonderful. Hope you like TREBLE!

Yeah, the only fishy thing is that there is no serial number on the guitar...but the old man claims that's how it was when he bought it used back in the day. I know someone who can vouch for his character but it still seems a little odd...

My old Rickenbackers serial was on the input plate, are you most certain you all arent just overlooking that? If that is missing, then you will have to take a small risk when buying it. The risk is that if you ever re-sell it your credibility will be added to the list of non-original owners that cant verify its age due to lack of credible paperwork/serial branding.

The price seems decent (even for a new rick), but I'd express my concern to the seller for the lack of serial code, he may drop the price a bit more.

You could also do some research and try to track down the original owner. If the original plate is what's missing, who knows it could be on the dudes workbench in a box of bolts.

Considering the 24 month wait for a new Ric....and the fact that a used Ric goes for about the same as a new one.......I would say that this is a no-brainer.

If it is straight, buy it - or post the name and phone so someone here can buy it.

Check under the trussrod cover

If it is a genuine ric it will have two trussrods not just one. If it has the rods I would not sweat the lack of a s/n. The s/n is(should be) on the jackplate.
Buy it
