5e3 with extention cabs?

What are the benefits of running an ext. cab from a 5e3 15w deluxe? Does it make it louder, more headroom, more gigable, fuller sounding, all of the above? If I'm worried about giging with a tweed deluxe why not just change ext. cabs to suit the venue? Wouldn't this work fine?

It's amazing what a different cab and speakers will do to a 5e3 (or most amps for that matter). The portability of the 1x12 combo is nice, but it's a small cab and the traditional design is prone to rattling. I absolutely love mine through an oversized, open-back 2x12 cab with H-magnet speakers. Even just going to a separate 1x12 like gkoelling posted above will really change the sound of the amp.

I have done this quite a bit and I dont know if it gets louder but it is definitely bigger and easier to hear in the band. More speakers moving more air seems to equal a bigger sound.

Running a 5E3 through a good cab makes a world of difference. Much bigger sounding with way better bass. It also helps loose the slightly boxy sound of the small, narrow panel combo cab.

Day before yesterday, I plugged my AC30's speakers into the new 5E3's speaker jack ... whoah!

The speakers play a big role when you start using extension cabs.

I have a crappy Fender 4 X 12 that sounds horrid when I plug in my 5E3, I have a 2 X 12 with Jensen Neo's and It sounds Massive.

The biggest thing to me is staying at the proper load, I really like the sound of my amp when I run it at the designed 8 ohm load. Simply plugging in an extension cab without addressing the actual impedance is not always where the best sound can be found.
