Danelectro V2
So, I just saw a demo on the new V2 Danelectro Cool Cat Drive and Transparent Overdrive.
I know there were some issues with Paul C and the Timmy (and the OCD) and I wonder if Dano capitulated and made V2, or are trying to follow the Fulltone OCD route and keep releasing new versions. In any event, does anyone have them? I'm most curious about the "under the hood" DIP switches and what they do, and especially if anyone has both versions and can offer a comparison. In the demo, both V2 pedals seemed to have less gain (that is, less distortion, not overall volume) given the assumed identical settings. They're so doggone cheap I might pick them up just to fart around with (despite the knobs ), and I have the V1 of both (TOD and CC Drive).Steve |

I have one and Im very happy with it ,its alittle harsh with the drive full on but other than that its a great boost or standalone pedal for some mild OD.
The DIP switches and some compression and gain and 2dips add boost from what I remember. So far I like the sound with either the DIPs all off or #1 switch on. The pedal has Gobs of output. |

This place isn't a great source because so many people are still butthurt over the TOD being a complete Timmy ripoff. I don't really love the idea of a major manufacturer blatantly stealing from Paul either because he does seem to be a solid guy, but it's not like the fx world isn't fraught with a bunch of people cloning each other's stuff.
I wish I could help you man, but if you want more advice about these, try HCFX or even HCAF (if you've got thick skin).

I did my own in store demo last Wednesday. My friend still has 4 V1s in his store, well 3 after I took one from him.
The difference is noticeable. The V1 still has the best sounds Even though they added a sharp looking black box and velvet tote bag, as well as even more Timmy-like features such as dip switches, the tone of the V1 pedal is not quite there anymore. I still prefer the V1. I was really interested to try the V2. The V2 is able to get a bit hairier and unorganized sounding especially when you mess with the dip switches. The V2 is still probably the best $30.00 OD out there, still out performing the Bad Monkey and sounding considerably better than the other Cool Cat drives and distortions. |
