Help me deciding on a Team Built Custom Stratocaster
So, I’m getting excruciatingly close to ordering a Fender Team Built Custom Shop Stratocaster. My dream guitar for a long time has been a 1966 olympic white strat with a rosewood fretboard. I’ve built part-o-casters, but they have never quite stacked up to my other custom shop ’69 strat. (BTW, I’m not looking to spend my money on another builder… I want a Fender).
So, I’m going to order a ’66 NOS Olympic white strat. I called my Fender dealer and it turns out that for a teambuilt, you get 3 free non-standard “options.” These include things like quartersawn necks, larger frets, flatter radius fretboards, etc… While tempting, I’m thinking that I should forego the temptation and go straight vintage spec. If you love a good vintage guitar and were in my situation, would you change anything? These are the things I was thinking about: - Quartersawn neck. Did Fender ever do this in the 60’s? - 7.25 radius versus 9.5. This boils down to vintage spec and comfort vs. that slight playability factor. - 6105 frets? - Offset body seam? - Quit being a damn idiot and just order a straight vintage spec ’66 guitar? Thanks for reading my rant. |
