Subdecay Proteus...

Who's played/owned one?

Is it really as awesome as it seems? It seems WAAAAY more practical than a Robotalk and much easier to use in a live setting...

Thoughts?

Whatever I say will be construed as biased because I was lucky enough to be the Proteus messenger. It's a killer filter pedal. I don't use many but I'd waited ages for something that could deliver the Zappa 'Ship Ahoy' sound. Brian delivered.

I'll add this also, if I may: Brian Marshall is an original thinker, designer and operator. He has built two pedals (at least) that I would regard as modern classics - The Liquid Sunshine and Flying Tomato II. Add to those the beautiful Echobox and eternally tweakable Prometheus and you have a catalogue of some distinction. The Proteus is one of Brian's latest gifts to us and I'm aware of the mother of all phasers about to be launched, soon.

I'm not a shill, just a fan.

I am a Liquid Sunshine fan also and also own a Prometheus. How is the Proteus different than the Prometheus other than the tap feature?

Thanks,
PJ

this pedal is really fun, auto wah with a random sampler almost arpeggiator thing going on. I have no need for it live, but I could wig out at home with it for a few hours for sure. Brett, you were doing some cool sh!t with it the other day. Im still dreaming about that MkIII!

uber easy to use in a live setting...just tweak to find a slightly brighter setting then you would normally use solo at home...The random filter mode cuts through very well live if you have it set right...there are MANY niches in this pedal and the sound of the envelope filter can change dramatically with the slightest move of the knob...I LOVE this pedal and would not take it off my board for nothin' ... PURE WIN

One thing I like about this thing over the Robotalk(had the ver 1) is that, based on testing in a shop, I don't have to change the depth and frequency knob when switching between the envelope filter and arpeggiator modes.

As for the tone, I find that the Proteus has a wider range of frequency and it just sounds and feels more natural. No volume boost or drop when being turned on.

Probably best to let Brian explain the feature sets himself rather than me stumble about and attempt it:

Yeah, that was great fun. Thanks for dropping over, Jess. In hindsight, we should have stuck the MKIII in front of the Proteus for some real fun. Next time..
