Classictone 5E3 replacement OT v DRRI replacement OT

I just tried one of the inexpensive 5E3 OT's, it's pretty much a knock off of Fenders 108 Deluxe OT. It's the same size and specs except for the wire colors.

I have tried pretty much all of the USA made 5E3 OT iron available. IMHO, MM sounds best followed by Heyboer and then this one... I have to admit they all have good sound and any clone with any of the three will sound great.

The biggest surprise is how good the DRRI replacement OT's sound in a 5E3, although it does loose a little of the vintage sound, it makes up in gained headroom and increased bass response. If I had a 5E3 and wanted a tad more headroom and bass response, this is an inexpensive mod... way cheaper than changing a speaker.

The kicker is the price, you can't beat them.

As of now I have the Classictone 108 copy in my amp now and will give it some time to burn in...
