How to develop my kids guitar ear?
My kid can tell chords in Led Zep songs. How can I develop that skill?

you mean he can just listen to it and say...thats e, b, cminor...??
Sounds like he is already deveoping nicely... I actually sing to my daughter...c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c...its only in one octave LOL and I am a crappy singer but by the time she is old ebough to play she will haave those tones embedded in her ear and relate them to the chord names.. for the record I play the chords on a guitar when I sing so I KNOW I am in tune

singing lessons. if you can sing it, that means you've internalized the note, and you can hear it.

The way it was taught to me: play a note, wait a few seconds, then sing it and compare to the actual note. As his ear gets better, he'll be able to wait longer and longer between the playing and the singing, and instead of singing the same note he'll be able to sing a precise interval away from that note. If he gets to perfect pitch, he'll be able to sing a note without having it played for him. If he's truly anal about it he can get to the point where he can tell if the note is out of tune relative to a 440Hz A.

Are you asking how you can help your kid improve his skill further, or how you can get the skills your kid has (and you lack)?

No, I'm just a hack. He made the school jazz band. I was really wondering about that perfect pitch program you see in all the magazines. Nice idea about singing the notes. |
