Live sound guys who work a lot: are you using speaker covers for travel?

I'm curious.

I can see my K12s getting pretty beat up once I get busy. . . . . but covering them seems like another piece of time . . . . you know?

cover them if you want them to look nice for more than 3 gigs. or, if you have a truck, buy a roadcase that houses 2 of them.

No question, cover them. I have covers for all of my speakers and it was well worth it.
Maybe the plastic on the K is a more durable than my KW though.

QSC makes bags/covers for the K12 series that are very nice.

I've been gigging my EV SX300s for over ten years. I always use covers and they still look like new! The original vinyl covers are a little too tight so I bought some bags from Carvin. Putting them inside those bags was even more trouble so I cut out the bottom and just use them as padded slip covers.

We use the QSC bags for our K series stuff. They've held up well so far. For our other small speakers, we usually have them in road cases, 2 to a case. Larger format speakers, we use Cloud 9 slip covers.

I worked for a sound company for a while.....

The Meyer MSL3A boxes each had ultra-heavy canvas covers (that were a PITA to get on!), but IIRC, the sub boxes were not covered.

Those canvas covers were reduced to rags in about 2 years time, so they were clearly taking abuse on behalf of the boxes....yet, I don't recall the subs getting too badly beat up. Go figure...
