Moonshine Custom Guitars

I'm new here (I usually find myself in the Bass forums). I am a big fan of all things from Nat Daniel's house in Neptune... Although I usually reside in the resonator world, A stint at Gruhn's Guitars in Nashville showed me just what could be done with a lipstick tube pickup & some masonite & pine.

The dolphin nose Silvertone Basses are what won me over, but soon I became engrossed in all things Nat Daniels... First came the Moonshine Resolectro line:

Then last year I received word that Jerry Jones was retiring and after attending the auction & buying what tooling & parts that I could, I went to work building my own version of "It came from Neptune" (or in this case... Nashville):

After a few changes, this is what I am building now:

This is the Moonshine Astro Bass VI.

Astro Bass IV.

I have also recently been commissioned to build a replica U-3; Although I have previously made a point not to tread in the replica waters, I have conceded that there are few (if any) builders that are doing this sort of thing... So "why not".

My goal is to continue in the tradition of previous builders that honor the genius that was (is) what Nat Daniels envisioned.

Thanks. Here is another shot of it:

The production model has two pickups (can be ordered with just one) and the pickguard & headstock overlay can be in pearloid or tortoise. Also your choice of bridges (wood saddle or metal adjustable).

very cool. i'm so bored with the typical S/T/LP stuff, so it's nice to see a new funky design. It's all about fun and these look cool.

I would like an angular cut in the top of the headstock that reflected the cuts in the body. Regardless, I still like these guitars a lot. Thanks for the pics.

A quality repro Longhorn 6 strg bass would be wonderful.I use my J.J. Neptune 6 all the time.Heck I'd buy a quality 4 strg Longhorn in a heartbeat. The older Koreans were good enough, but you cant beat the extra attention to quality that Jerry Jones put into his.

Still dealing with website problems. Thanks to everyone that has contacted me. I am working on it.

At this time: Please do not go to my website (once again, people are working on it & hopefully, we'll have it back up soon), I do have a facebook page: Moonshine Custom Guitars; you can contact me there with no problems.

Thanks to everybody for their patience,

Website is up (again)... Hopefully for good! New web guy is working on getting it updated. Email address will be back up this week.

For now, please contact me here or at: moonshinegtrs@netzero.com

After a ton of research, the first Moonshine Retro model is in mid-build. Neck is complete. After much consideration, I have decided to construct the body in the style of the original Nat Daniels design. A totally new approach compared to my previous designs.

I have decided to offer the retro in two variations:

1: Moonshine Retro ND: These will be as close to the original Nat Daniels
design as possible, including: poplar necks with twin steel bars (non-
adjustable), Kluson style tuners & vintage 4-way adjustable, rosewood
saddle bridges. My goal is to come as close as possible to obtaining the original Dano sound.

2: Moonshine Retro JJ: Vintage styling with modern updates: Maple neck
with two-way adjustable truss rod (T-rod adjustment at headstock),
modern tuners & bridge (note: currently I am using Gotoh hardware,
but I am looking into using Hipshot's products). These models are my interpretation of Jerry's later models.

Both models will come standard with GFS pickups; these are excellent sounding pickups for the money. Other P/U manufacturers will be available as an option (Seymour Duncan, Kent Armstrong, Lollar, etc... I also have access to a very small quantity of original N.O.S. Jerry Jones lipstick tube pickups).

As I have mentioned before, The first body style offered will be the "U" (single cutaway). future models will include shorthorn & longhorn body styles (including double necks). All models will be available in six/twelve string guitars & four & six string (Baritone or Tic-Tac) bass variations.

I also plan to build sitars and maybe even some mandolins, mandocellos & ukeleles.

I will post some build pics soon.
