After mastering, what file type do you save your audio as...

...if your planning on sending it away to Kunaki so that it plays on most players? I'm several steps away from mastering my record but I just can't help being curious. I'm using Logic 9.

If you are using logic 9, it can master directly to a CD from the waveburner application. you can, from that, create aiff files by dragging the files from the finished burned CD to your hard drive, and upload them as aiff. In any case, that's the way it works well with bandcamp.com, where I've had some success with this (and am about to upload some of my older, recently remastered stuff - remastered in logic's waveburner).

If you're not using waveburner for final mastering (which is admittedly not as good as hiring someone with golden ears, but if you're careful it is very very good), you should be.

It depends on if it's also assembled for you...

If it is, then a Redbook 44.1/16 disk is the deliverable.

I'd also have them send a DVD w/the mastered files at whatever they were tracked/mixed at.

Pietro, thanks man. This is just a toss around EP for friends and family (although I'm treating it like a full fledged real deal ordeal). I'v edone a bit of mastering basics before but never used Waveburner. I always import aiff or PCM (i think?) into the mastering section of Logic itself.

If you have Waveburner (which was free with the CD version, might be an additional few bucks with the online version that is available now), you REALLY should check it out. It is THE way to do this in Logic.

I've mastered "in Logic" and then done it in Waveburner. It's extraordinarily better in Waveburner.

I do the same thing. Waveburner takes in those 24-bit files, lets you add your plug-ins (not as good as really high quality expensive stuff, but really really useful for me), and spits out a Red Book CD (or files to send off for CD replication).

You'll like it, I promise.

Yeh just opened it then, seems pretty cool, i'll try it next time i record. I'll probably use Logic if i need outboard in the chain, but this seems to be nice and simple for just an ITB master, recognized all my plugs. Thanks for the tip!
