The RW&B is my favourite speaker for fendery amps.

I like RWB's with a number of amps, but they require nearly as much breaking in as a C-Rex before they shine, and they sound better as they're cranked up. I've used them in Fenders and Laneys. My GH50L sounded great through two of them, got great plexi sounds from that combination, with no pedals. I've since gravitated to C-Rex, which after a breaking in, made my RWB's sound like they had a a bit blanket over them effect. My son just started using one in his Hotcat Badcat and is so far liking it.

They're a fairly flat response speaker, not a lot of coloration, except sans high spikes and with a warm, fat bottom. I think best in amps with highs that could use some taming.

I know Dave Gries uses them as the standard 12" speaker in his new Gries 5. He knows tone.

I believe the Pure 64 Silver Series speakers in my 2x12's that you've played are from that RWB/G12-65 style family. I think they sound great with my Fendery style amps.

I have a RWB in my '67 BandMaster 1 X 12 combo (previous owner put the chassis in a Deluxe Reverb cab. That was my main gigging amp before I recently took a gigging hiatus. While I haven't had the chance to compare the speaker with anything else in an equal situation, the amp itself (as equipped with the RWB) does seem very neutral in that when I switch guitars (Tele/Strat/335/LP Special) I don't have to make any adjustment to the tone controls, particularly in a live gigging environment.

And all the above being said, I am very happy with the sound I am getting with the amp/speaker combination. It's neither too bright or too dark/muddy.

I use a RWB in my mid-70s Fender Deluxe Reverb.
It is a significant upgrade from the original Oxford.
I do agree that this speaker sounds warm, a bit middy and slightly dark, which makes it a perfect match with BF/SF Fenders.
It tames the icepick effect, but does never lack punch or clarity in the highs.

I switched out the brighter Badcat labeled Vintage 30 with a Red White and Blues. It did tame the highs in that amp, and can agree that it kind of sound like they have a blanket over them, which with the Hotcat is kind of a good thing.
I've yet to see how it cuts thru in a band mix yet with this set up tho.

I also ran a RW&B thru a 1x12 Avatar using a Marshall 1987x, sounded killer together!

I played the RW&B today in the VVT Fralin combo. Compared to the stock Eminence Legend 15" speaker, the RW&B definitely is darker, I had to bump up the treble control a fair amount, and the bright switch added top end but not quite as much shimmer as with the 15" speaker. Interesting.

Next up, a Tone King 1891 50W speaker (when it arrives next week).

A while back, I called Joe Naylor (Reverend & Naylor amps), asking for a comprable replacement speaker for the Reverend Alltone 12" speaker! He suggested the RW&B as the closest to the Alltone. That little tidbit may be of NO help at all! LOL

Begging your pardon but I just swapped out a RW&B for an Alltone and the Alltone is much brighter. I was considering messing with cap values on the amp to get more high end frequencies (the amp is a Nolatone Junebug btw) but after installing the Alltone I think the amp is great as it is.

Of course your mileage may vary...........

The 'wizard' is the bright emmy speaker if you need brighter sounds.

Accord to Ted Weber, the All-tone is (or is almost) the same as the Weber Sig 12B ceramic. I've had both, and if the story is true, the RWB is nothing alike, and pretty much complete opposite. The 12B is super clear, loud and punchy, tight bass and very bright.

I have had and used at one period five RWB's. I find no resemblance at all to my Pure64 Silver Series ll, completely different voicing, to my ears.

RWB's are bottom heavy, mid creamy, and very tame highs. To me it's more toward an EV wannabe, but muddier in Fender amps when distortion pedals are used, and with more bass. To me it doesn't in the least resemble a 12-65 voice. Bright amps only need apply. I didn't care for it very much in my DRRI, greatly prefer a nicely broken in C-Rex - more clearly defined notes through distortion. The SSll is my second favorite in that amp, and it blends exceptionally well with the C-Rex, though the SSll sounds far better in a deeper dedicated ext cab than in the shallow DR combo cab.

The SSll is indeed G12-65 voiced but with tighter and more defined bass than most 12-65 clones (large magnet), more evenly distributed across the frequency band (than a RWB), nice high end without being piercing.

I'd still consider a RWB if I ever had another Laney GH50L, which has extremely bright gain and benefits from the dampening effect of that speaker.

The Valvetrain 315 comes with the RW&B, I picked it after playing a ton of 5e3s.
