Lava retro-coil cable Q

I'm thinking about purchasing either 20ft or 35 ft cable. In fact, I don't really need anything longer than, say, 15 ft for my applications. When it says 20ft, is that a "relaxed" length or stretched? Many many years ago I fooled with a cheap coiled cable so my experience is limited. What are the advantages of using a coiled cable? Any negatives? It looks good but at my age I could not careless especially about the appearance of, of all things, a cable. Thanks in advance, Ed

Yes!! absolutely buy one, at your age you don't want to fall!! It's 20' when it's stretched, and the advantages are, it's never under foot, sounds killer, and looks "retro". I know looks aren't important, but they don't suck!! Can't think of any downers!! It's built like a Tank, made in the USA, by a Great guy!! I have been using mine for awhile now, the VOX I tried first, sounded weak and only lasted 3-weeks. This guy Mark, at LAVA stands buy his products. Its all GOOD!!!!!!! I don't know the LAVA boys personaly or sell/work for them, just another satisfied customer.

These are for guitar direct to amp people, right? I don't see an advantage if you go guitar to pedalboard. Am I missing something?

I love my retro coil. It never tangles up and I don't have to wrap it up at the end of a gig, I just throw it in my bag!

I'd go with the 35' - the length is measured from jack to jack around the coil, so a 20' cable would be probably closer to 10' with a comfortable tension. It could probably stretch to 15' or so, but you'd be pulling really hard on the jacks at both ends.

In terms of advantages and negatives, the advantage for me is that it doesn't get wrapped at my feet as often, if I do step on it I don't rip the cable out of my amp/board/guitar, and it doesn't need to be coiled when I'm done. The one con I'd add is that they are noticeably heavier than standard cables.

Lava has a replacement policy, for the life of the cable.
Call them up or E-Mail Mark, and get a replacement.
Not just killer cables but awesome customer service also!!

If the coil feature is more important for appearance than for the stretch and retract aspect you might like some of the other cables Lava offers better. There's going to be more cable for your signal to travel through in a coiled cord than a straight cable ~
'Maybe not an issue if you're using pedals, effects, and a buffer, but may be noticeable if you're going straight in to your amp and rely on the guitar's controls for volume and tone changes.
I have a Lava Soar and a couple of ELC's and like them a lot
