Maz 18 Loud enough?

Am thinking about the Maz 18 for small to medium club use. Did anyone find that it was not loud enough to go un mic'd? And, at drummer level was there too much break up? Is it all chime at that level or can you get some clean out of it?

I'm hearing that the 38 may be too loud by the time it breaks up?

Any feedback you have would be great!!!

A maz 18 is pretty loud. The reverb has more clean headroom than the non reverb. I think the maz is not as chimy as people might think that it is.

The maz 18 is plenty loud in my experience
It cut through the mix nicely and is very ballanced
Keep in mind that the 38 is also voiced slightly different
so if you like the 18 you may or may not like the 38

With humbuckers you will have very little head room. With single coils you will be good chimey cleans at a good volume, but with a hard hitting drummer you might struggle without a mic. I would suggest the 38 unless you like natural break up at giggable volumes. If you are looking for really clean, get the 38.

I had one up until a couple of weeks ago. I was forced to use it un mic'd about 2 months ago and it came through with flying colors. We have a heavy drummer and another guitarist in a Classic Rock band.....

Interpret the first sentence as "there'll be a little fur on it." The Maz 18 is a loud amp with a pair of G12Hs or Blues. Up about 3/4, you'd overpower most drummers and get in trouble with most club owners.

Plenty loud enough, I use mine in a rock/classic rock cover band, and usually have the AirBrake on a click or two.
Great amp!

Holy geez... I think it is a super loud 18 watts....

Unless you are playing huge outdoor gigs... or really big rooms where you can crank it as loud as you want.. I just don't see you have a problem with a Maz..

That's my experience as well (1x12 Reverb combo w/ a 50 watt WSG Blackhawk Alinco, which suits the amp quite well BTW).

The chime definitely comes through more with single coils than humbuckers.

But either way I can't see it not being loud enough w/ headroom for club use.

I had a Maz 18 w/ reverb and found it plenty loud for all the bars our band played in.

I only sold it to get a Remedy. The other guitarist in the band also has a Maz 18 and can easily keep up with the 20 W setting on the Remedy.

Loud. In a good way. Shockingly so, for having "18 (watts)" in the name.
And articulate enough as it begins to break up to feel clean longer than it actually is "clean", if that makes sense.
Very cool amp.

Small to medium clubs...I don't recall ever having the master volume past noon, running through a Z 2x10 cab.

if you're worried too much just get the 2x12 combo...but it's a LOUD 18 watter. I wouldn't worry about it.

Maz 18

Have to say that the Maz 18 is the best amp I have ever had.

It will do home use, small and big clubs and has enough headroom for most indoor venues I have played. MY 2x10 NR is also far less directional than other small combos I have used.

A great all rounder of an amp.
