Flashback vs Malekko Ekko616 vs DL8

Hey guys,

Happy holidays!
And because christmas has gone and I still haven't got any gifts I need to buy myself something. So, help me decide! I need a new delay pedal, what would you buy if you could choose between the digitech DL8, the malekko ekko616 and the flashback? I want to use it for noodling around, edg'y stuff, brian may stuff etc!

I've heard great things about the malekko so I would go with that one but it really depends on what you want to do with it. I just got an aqua puss analog delay and I love it. For what you want the 600ms of delay time with the malekko should be fine.

I don't know anything about the DL8, but I have owned the Malekko Ekko 616. Very cool analog delay pedal, but really meant for spacey, ambient stuff, IMO. I have the Flashback, and it is very, very killer. If you are wanting to do some Edge type stuff, the Flashback is the way to go. BTW, the Flashback has a dotted eight switch for U2 sounding stuff.

The dotted 8th switch is one thing I wish the DL8 had. I have one and it sounds great-has a lot of useful sounds and features and is fun to play around with. I haven't tried the other two though. If you need the dotted 8ths though, I guess the Flashback would be the obvious choice.

Haven't tried the dl8, but I have the other two. The 616 is for sale. For what I'm looking for the flashback covers the same area as the 616 and then some. The 616'll do some crazy shit though!

Have not used the others but I have used the DL8 for a couple of years, and it's the best delay ever.

It has seen many others come and go, both analog and digital, sometimes 2 times the price of the Hardwire. I love the features and usability, the analog, modulated, lori and tape modes are fantastic. Cannot recommend it enough.

I have the 616 and had the DL8.

616 is different than the others as they all outfeatured(??) the 616. But it does the analog thing brilliantly, where its hard to replicate on the digitals.

DL8 to me is a great sounding delay with some quirks: no subdivision and weird tap tempos.

versatility -> DL8 or flashback

spacey warbly weirdness -> 616

I have the 616 and had the DL8 and Flashback.

As stated by others, 616 is a different beast, so if you're looking for warmth and the sound of analog decays, go with that.

I liked both the hardwire and TC. The TC would win with me based on the smaller footprint, longer loop time and the tone prints. However on problem with the TC that the DL8 doesn't have is that even the slightest adjustment of your settings can have a drastic impact on your delay time, repeats, decays, etc. I also thought the analog emulation on the DL8 was slightly better.
