The Jensen C12N in my cab is super harsh!...

I bought a cab on ebay...the speaker installed is the Jensen mentioned, and I just cannot get in to how it sounds...super harsh, I even had sold my Orange Tiny Terror cause I thought it was the amp....!!...
Any ideas...also what is a good "all purpose" rock, blues, country speaker?...
Thanks...help!!

Eminence Cannabis Rex or Texas Heat, Warehouse Guitar Speaker 1265. Heck, even the Weber Signature 12B - it's a great all around speaker for low bucks.
But - what's the amp first ?

Those C12N's are definitely bright, scooped mids and tend to work best with blackface circuits where the bottom is emphasized. I tried one in my Hot Rod Dlx and took it out in less than an hour. I tried breaking it in by playing bass heavy music through it for a day, even a light spray of fabric softener on the cone...didn't help.

I'd suggest going to the Warehouse Guitar Speaker website and checking out their offerings. Both american and british designs at very reasonable prices.

Ha! I picked up a Tiny Terror and tried it with some 10" Jensens... Awful, boxy, terrible. Tried it with some Emi alnico blues, that everyone swears by... And a weber blue pup... Always a weird mid presence and boxiness.

Tried it through my buddy's Class 5 speaker... A Celestion of some sort. Man, it sounded awesome.

My bandmates has a Bassman that he's popped into a cabinet and has swapped a few speakers around in it... A C12N, which he did not like. An anniversary G12H, which he liked at bedroom levels, but not so much at our last gig. And his favorite a V30... My favorite of the 3 as well.

We have another bud who uses a V30 in his Hot Rod Deluxe. He sounds awesome, I've enjoyed playing through this combo.

I've contemplated finding a few 10" Celestion style speakers to try in my amps ('63 Vibroverb RI and a '69 Vibrolux).

How old is the C12N? They take a really long time to break in. It's always going to be a bright speaker, but the spikeyness will subside over time as the speaker breaks in.

I thought about that too...probably needs the crap played out of it!....
Also, I think I just need to learn more about matching the speaker and the amp...AND, quit buying stuff and play!!!
