A winner in the shootout (pun intended) - UPDATE

I thought I'd narrowed my search down to two, then I tried the SR9c.

I'll be purchasing my first handgun soon, and these are my choices:

Springfield Armory XDm:

Walther P99AS:

And the newcomer, Ruger SR9c:

I've been leaning towards the XDm the most, but they all seem to be really decent. The 10 round magazine of the Ruger is kind of a turn-off, but not necessarily a deal breaker. So which of these three would you choose?

the XD always caught my eye in American Rifleman ads. i especially like the smooth transition from std mag to extended. i'd like to own one someday.

Plus the XDm package deal is tough to beat. Leather not included.

If you're going to get a ugly gun, get a Glock.

By the way, no slam intended on your choices. Ugly guns are usually the best kind to have. The XDM gets my vote. It's still ugly though...

You don't buy a gun based on it's appearance.

LOL, so what you consider to not be an ugly gun?

I have the XDM9. I liked the thumb safety and for a first handgun it's easy to break down and clean.

The 3/3/3 rule applies. In the average gunfight, the range is 3 yards, it lasts 3 seconds, and 3 shots are fired.

If the Ruger feels the best, concealable, etc, then buy it. If you're going to be walking through the West End of Louisville, KY, carry an extra mag.

None of them are on my list though I had a friend several years ago that had the Walther and I put a couple hundred rounds through it... VERY ergonomic. Not crazy about the trigger or the gun in general really, but the design of the grip itself... I definitely liked it.

Another friend (and forum member, but he rarely checks in The Pub) has an XD45 and an XDM9. I've put a couple hundred rounds through both of them and I could live with either of them.

No experience with the Ruger at all other than holding one at the shop.

If I were to buy a 9mm, it would definitely be another CZ PCR/P01. If I were to buy one of those three, I'd go for the XD or XDM.

Most 1911's. Beretta 92FS/M9. Sig Sauer P229. Just a few examples.

Kidding aside, the XDM is a fantastic gun to own. Three of my shooting buddies own one. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, otherwise buy the XDm.

Seriously though, all great guns (including the Glock). Buy the one that feels and shoots best to you. I recently bought an XDm 45 and I love it.

If it doesn't fit your hand well your accuracy will always be compromised.
Get the one that fits your hand the best.

I like the looks of the Walther. I don't have any experience with any of the three listed - but I don't like glock-style trigger safeties and the Walther didn't have it.

I own/carry a Sig Sauer P229 SAS Gen 2.

This is king. Do yourself a favor and look at the SW M&P compact nine. I shopped everything and it won out and has been superb.
