Difference between KOT low gain and Tim?

I know, stupid question. But if I want a low gain, always on drive with a built in boost, which would you go for? What are the major tonal differences?

Apples and oranges. The Tim is cleaner, but when the OD is cranked gets grittier.
The KOT imparts more mids, especially lower mids, but it rounds out the tone a bit. The Tim is more "transparent" and stays a little flatter. If you love your amp and just want more of it, go for the Tim. If you want to add a little color, grab the KOT. I like both equal.

Thanks Gpro. That makes sense. So as an always on pedal, the tim will sound more like my amp, the KOT will impart a touch of color and its own EQ. Anyone else? I don't have room for both, and I have a sweet (Caroline Icarus) clean boost already.

Never owned a KOT, but Blues Breakers generally seem to fill the same space as what people usually use a Timmy for. I owned the Morning Glory for a bit, liked it more than the Timmy on some amps, less on others, but it was focused on the high end rather than low-mids whereas the Timmy's tone was more flexible with the two knobs.

KOT really gets the classic blues dirt tone, and the timmy is a much more modern sounding rock tone. It would be tough to say that one would have any crossover with the other. (albeit that I have version 1 of the timmy) I recently played a show over the holidays using the KOT to give you an idea.

What kind of amp you have and what do you want to accomplish?

Thanks for the replies. I have an early PTP Budda TwinMaster 18. It's got a Marshall/Vox sound on the high gain input. I usually play a P90 R4 or Tele through it and do, mostly, classic blues/rock. I ditched a Red Snapper (too bright) with my rig and have been using mostly a Sun Face for all dirt with amp gain and a clean boost. I am thinking about an OD for always on light to medium gain and these town pedals are two I've never tried, for obvious reasons. That said, I'm off the KOT list and waiting for one, but hope it's dynamic and transparent enough for my needs.

The KOT is not a pedal I'd turn to for transparency. I sold my KOT v. 4 for that reason (though it's certainly good at what it does). Love my Timmy because it's transparent.

Whiskey, if you wait a bit, Analogman is suppose to come out with a yellow side only KOT. I love my Timmy and KOT and they sound incredible together but would love to have the yellow side KOT for the room on my board.

I dont know. We had a poll on it back in the summer I believe. Analogman chimed in and said he would build them but had 2 or 3 other projects first so im hoping soon. Maybe Analogman can chime in?

Here is the poll: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...ghlight=yellow

I read that whole thread and I didn't see Mike say he would do a "PoT"...he said it would be a good idea but he never said it would happen.

If it does happen, and this is not a negative comment but if it does happen I'm sure it'll be a while.

As an aside you can set both sides of the KoT to clean (or OD or DIST) and they are the same (assuming you don't have the higher gain mods on one side) and with tweaks of the treble trimmer and torn control you can dial out most of the midrange bump in a KoT and get a more even sound from it and leave the other side alone and have 2 very different tones in one box...

For that amp a Timmy. For more money I'd get a Kingsley of some kind. IMHO they are better than both those.
