Arrow Jimi. May 8, 1970. Norman, Ok. Machine Gun...

A much more introspective version than the BOG version. Sadder, angrier. Just after Kent State. Man, the back of the hall recording confirms he DID sound that f'in good. Dig. At around 9:00-10:28 has anyone REALLY got a better sound out of a Marshall?

Wow, that was incredible. It's such a haunting contrast to the New Years Eve version...amazing.

Based on his vocal the whole recording is a bit slowed down. Either way it's a killer version.

I saw him in June of 69 with Noel Redding on bass. Listening to this and the billion times I listened to Band of Gypsies shows me Jimi was evolving into an better guitar player. He was still charting the waters. So sad he had to leave.

That's a great version, that intro is pure Jimi. He did his best playing in the Spring and Summer of 1970.

Really fantastic stuff, wrenches those notes out like no other.

Check out 9:41 where he sneaks in a bit of 'Taps' (the military bugle piece).

Incredible

wow. I saw Jimi 5 times in NYC, from March '68 (Hunter College) until
New Years Day 1970 BOG and I never heard anything quite like that.
He was loose this day... beautiful.
From my own experience ;-) my best shows were the first two, the aforementioned Hunter College (he played Up From The Skies, Axis was out a week...) and May 10 '68 Fillmore East (Sly opening, he played a black les paul custom on Red House) and Band Of Gypsies- there he really played some guitar.
But this recording you've posted is really special. Thanks for sharing...
here are two of my stubs

This has long been considered the best version of "Machine Gun" he ever played...at least that ever made it to tape...that anyone knows about.
