Johnny Otis was a big presence in Sebastopol, where I work, and was a very sweet and funny man. The print shop I work at used to produce some of his event posters and flyers. I loved his radio program and have really missed it since he had to quit a few years back due to his health. What a full life he lived. Tip of the glass to him . . .

I've listened to or read several obits for Johnny Otis since yesterday and I'm surprised none of them have mentioned his son, Shuggie. I wonder if it was a strained relationship or just a product of Shug's reclusive nature.

++. his Sat. show on KPFA was a weekly thing for me for a long time. big influence on me, essential to West Coast Blues, etc. - and quite the artist:

Amen to that. I only regret not seeing him play more often at local events. RIP!
