Anyone heard of threads stripped off the truss rod, nut the nut?
My lady friend got a new Taylor 3 years ago, I looked it over and it seemed fine.
3 years later she hadn't really used it at all. I looked it over to see if there was a problem that led to the non use. The neck was very bent and the truss rod turned like it had never been tightened. Long story short; The brass nut seemed fine but the threads on the steel rod are totally shot. If you try to tighten it it'll go some ways and then bang! the nut gets stripped because it's holding on by the very tip of the threads. How the hell does this happen? This is a guitar sold as new by a big retailer.

If the threads on the rod are stripped only in one area, then putting washers under the nut will move the nut up to a different non-stripped area of the rod.
But, if all the threads are stripped on the threads of the rod, much bigger problem. Regardless of the above I would start by calling taylor directly: http://www.taylorguitars.com/support I'm sure they want their owners happy, and this does not seem normal. Their warranty does not specific a specific time on general issues, but there is a lot of fine print. Their warranty basically states that they won't do anything for you if the guitar isn't registered within 4 weeks, never mind 3 years...
I can't see a piece of thread that isn't badly stripped. There's one place where they are pretty much leveled.

I've definitely seen it on budget and cheap import guitars. They're either using pot metal for the truss rods or some fool really went to town adjusting that nut back and forth with misaligned threads.
